Dementia is one of the cruelest diseases and is the UK’s biggest killer since 2022. Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia and makes up approximately 53% of dementia cases.
Jill pictured here in blue dancing today at our ‘Music Club’ was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s only recently, yet sadly now struggles to recognise her own family and her home.
Today Jill arrived at the One YMCA Leavesden Community Hub for the first time with her daughter.
As our singer, Alex Scott started to perform, Jill’s face lit up and within minutes she was dancing and singing with her new Smile friends.
Jill’s daughter shared:
“Thank you so much for a wonderful morning. My mum had the best time, I haven't seen her so happy in such a long time.”
Music feels like medicine to people living dementia….
